How to deal with serious and major incidents is something with which every health and social care manager and clinical leader must be familiar. Often these incidents will have a high profile in the media and may lead to public concern about a service. This may filter through to patients and families and in turn lead to anxiety for them, and place added pressure and stress on staff across an organisation.

Speakers include:

Prof. Pat Troop, Mb ChB, Vice Chair Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, former Chief Executive of the Health Protection Agency and Deputy Chief Medical Officer of the Department of Health.

Prof Troop led an Independent Review of the Incidents of Pseudomonas Aeriginosa Infection and Colonisation in Neo-natal Augmented Settings in Northern Ireland. This report was delivered to the health committee and Health Minister, Edwin Poots, in May 2012.

Dame Deirdre Hine DBE FFPHM FRCP, former Chief Medical Officer for Wales, Director of Breast Cancer Screening Service, Wales.

In 2004, at the request of the Northern Ireland DHSSPS, Dame Hine chaired the Inquiry into the Decontamination of Endoscopes in hospitals throughout Northern Ireland. She also chaired the 2013 Public Inquiry into the Outbreak of Clostridium Difficile in Northern Trust Hospitals.

Dr Bharat Patel, Consultant Medical Microbiologist, Public Health Laboratory, Public Health England Bharat has served on review panels for the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority, Northern Ireland and Healthcare Inspectorate for Wales, investigating outbreaks of Clostridium difficile in acute hospitals.
