“Transport Medicine Programme”

Presented by Dr. Geoff King

Director of the Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council

Large Lecture Theatre, 3rd Floor, Dublin Dental University Hospital

The Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Council (PHECC), established in 2001, is an independent statutory organisation responsible for implementing, monitoring and further developing the standards of care provided by all statutory, private and voluntary ambulance services in Ireland. Pre-hospital emergency care is any clinical care or intervention that an acutely ill or injured person receives from trained personnel in the Pre-Hospital environment. The Council publishes clinical practice guideline (CPGs) and recognises institutions to provide pre-hospital emergency care training and education. The Council also maintains a statutory register of practitioners and approves Pre-Hospital Emergency Care Service Providers to implement CPGs.

Dr. Geoff King is originally from Queensland, Australia, where he was the Director of Medical Services with the Royal Flying Doctor Service. Since arriving in Ireland in 2001, he has been Director and Medical Advisor to the PHECC. In 2011 he was appointed Lead of the HSE Transport Medicine Programme (TMP).
