Grief and Dementia Factsheets

The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland in collaboration with the Irish Hospice  Foundation has developed three leaflets for families coping with dementia.

These  factsheets were co-developed with the Alzheimer Society of Ireland and are designed for people with dementia and their family / carers. They were launched by Dr. Suzanne Cahill as part of Carers week in June. The factsheets cover the following:

Guidance Document: ‘ Facilitating discussions on future and end-of-life care with a person with dementia’

This first guidance document ‘ Facilitating discussions on future and end-of-life care with a person with dementia’ was published in June. This is aimed at all healthcare staff supporting people with dementia. This guidance is the first in a series of 7 addressing specific aspects of dementia palliative care. Upcoming guidance documents will cover the following areas: Loss and grief for a person with dementia, advance healthcare planning and advance directives, ethical decision making, pain assessment and management, medication management and nutrition and hydration. This guidance document and its accompanying factsheet are available to download here
