The Dublin Mid Leinster regional committee were delighted when Dr. Susan O’Reilly, National Director of the National Cancer Control Programme agreed to address their meeting on 25th June. Dr. O’Reilly’s presentation provided a comprehensive overview on the Development of NCCP and Insights into the Critical Success Factors for the programme.

Outlining the situation from 2006, through to the present Dr. O’Reilly gave a thorough account of the current situation regarding the cancer strategy and it’s likely trajectory, She identified those factors which can improve cancer survival into the future.  These include population-based screening, high volume and expert centred care and the specialist personnel and tools of the trade, for example diagnostics.

A lively question and answer session followed, where Dr. O’Reilly answered many questions from the large group of healthcare managers and professionals who were present.
